Lecturer of Rastafari Studies expresses concern about DPP’s ruling in relation to Nzinga King’s case

Coordinator of the Rastafari Studies Centre of the University of the West Indies Dr. Jalahni Niaah, has expressed concern about the ruling by the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP in relation to the case of young Rastafarian woman, Nzinga King.

Ms. King claims that her locks were cut while in police lock up in Clarendon last year.

Yesterday (February 9), the DPP Paula Lewellyn said after reviewing the matter, there were several inconsistencies in the claims made by Ms. King and that her claims were not supported by other persons interviewed.

She ruled that no criminal charge be laid against the police officers accused of abuse in relation to Ms. King.

The DPP has indicated that Ms. King can pursue civil remedies in the matter.

Speaking with Irie Fm News Dr. Niaah expressed concern about the ruling.

Meantime, Dr. Niaah, said the ruling also raises concern about the delivery of justice to ordinary Jamaicans.
