Local Government ministry reports 2 Covid related deaths at its facilities

The Local Government ministry is reporting that an elderly man, from the St. Elizabeth infirmary died this morning, from complications associated with the coronavirus.

 

Details of this death have not been provided.

 

The St. Elizabeth death is the second one to affect facilities run by the local government ministry, as it follows a Covid related death at the Vineyard Town Golden Age home in Kingston, yesterday.

 

The resident was a 73-year-old male from Kingston and St. Andrew

 

In a statement today, Minister of Local Government Desmond McKenzie, expressed condolences to the relatives of the deceased man.

 

Mr. McKenzie said all 637 staff and residents of the Vineyard Town home have been tested, with 533 being negative, while 22 staff and 82 residents tested positive.

 

The deceased was the first person to be diagnosed at the facility.

 

Mr. McKenzie said those who tested positive are being carefully managed, and he is optimistic that they will experience a full recovery.

 

He assured that the ministry will continue to implement all the health protocols, along with enhanced measures, and work closely with the ministry of health to protect the lives of the residents and staff.

 

He is also urging staff members who provide special services at the infirmaries, and related places of care, to remain steadfast.
