by February 15th, 2022

Minister of Local Government, Desmond McKenzie is expected to make an announcement regarding the entertainment sector soon.

Earlier this month, the Government had indicated that it would be considering allowing vaccinated persons to attend some entertainment and sporting events.

In a statement last evening (February 15), Mr. McKenzie revealed that permission has been granted to the Premier League Clubs Association for football matches to be played with limited spectators at four designated venues across the island.

The venues include Drax Hall in St. Ann, which will accommodate fully vaccinated spectators.

According to Mr. McKenzie, the Government continues to review applications submitted for various events, in keeping with the commitment to restoring social life in a sustainable way, subject to the COVID-19 indicators.

Mr. McKenzie says in this regard, he will be making an announcement about the entertainment sector very soon.

He is urging citizens to get vaccinated so Jamaica can return to full social life.

Meantime, Opposition Spokesperson on Health, Dr. Morais Guy has welcomed the announcement that spectators will be allowed to watch some football matches.

However, Dr. Guy questioned what measures will be put in place for unvaccinated persons.
