President of the Medical Association of Jamaica, Dr. Brian James, has pointed out that Jamaica’s COVID-19 death rate is higher than the rest of the world.
Dr. James said with the country now in the 5th covid wave, medical workers are concerned about the impact on health services.
He noted that the 5th wave in Jamaica was inevitable, considering that it was already in the USA and UK and that Jamaica remains vulnerable, due to low vaccination.
Dr. James said the only optimistic position, is that hospitalizations remain manageable.
He expressed concern about the effects of the new wave on children and schools.
Dr. James criticized persons who incorrectly draw comparisons between deaths that occurred before, and after, vaccinations.
