The Maritime Air and Cyber Command division of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) made a major marijuana seizure, in Hanover, this morning.

The seizure consisted of 22 bags of the prohibited drug.

According to the JDF, service members were deployed to the Great River Bay area of Hanover on Sunday, to locate and interdict a vessel of interest.

The service members took control of the vessel earlier today. A search later revealed approximately 22 knitted bags of what appears to be marijuana.

The JDF notes that the operation is still ongoing, and more details will follow as they become available.

It adds that safeguarding Jamaica’s maritime space is central to the work of the force, while noting that through its maritime operations, several illicit activities that pose a threat to Jamaica and citizens have been interrupted and persons detained.
