Man charged for beating daughter with machete in Westmoreland

A 54 year-old man has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm against his daughter.

He is Joseph Arthurs, a businessman of Revival District, Westmoreland.

Reports are that about 11:00 a.m. on May 3, Arthurs’ daughter was on her way to an internet café, when she was seen by her father who was passing in a motorcar.

A statement from the police said, he reportedly told her to go home however, she disobeyed his instructions.

According to police reports, he reportedly exited the vehicle and used a piece of stick to hit her, on the hand.

It’s further alleged that he then went to the car and retrieved a machete which was used to hit her in the back.

A part of the incident was captured on video, and circulated on social media.

The matter was reported to the Grange Hill police on Saturday and Arthurs taken into custody and charged today (May 8).

He is to appear before the Westmoreland Parish Court on Tuesday.
