by June 2nd, 2018

The Portland police say there was not much more that could have been done by the officer who responded to calls that a man had taken ill and died while sitting in a chair, in Port Antonio, yesterday (June 1).

The identity of the dead man has not been released. The matter has been ruled a sudden death.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

Head of the Portland police Superintendent Dwayne Wellington says based on reports, the man indicated to persons that he was not feeling well and was given a chair to sit in, along the sidewalk, close to a gas station.

In the viral video, some onlookers are heard saying the man is dead, while others stated that his hands were moving and that he should be taken to hospital.

Superintendent Wellington says the officer who responded, did not detect any sign of life, and it was determined that the man possibly died an hour before.

As such, the cop contacted the funeral home, as well as police control.

Superintendent Wellington says the police have communicated with the man’s relatives, and investigations into the matter will continue.
