Man hunt launched for taxi driver who mowed down traffic cop

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has released a photo of the public passenger motorcar that mowed down the police constable in new Kingston this morning.

 

The police are appealing to members of the public to be on the lookout for the black Toyota Wish motor car with the license plate number PJ6379.

 

While noting that the occupants of the vehicle resisted multiple attempts by the police to be stopped, the lawmen appealed to the driver of the car to turn himself in to the police immediately.

 

The police say the injured constable who is assigned to the public safety and traffic enforcement branch is being treated at hospital where he is in stable condition.

 

Meantime, head of the Independent Commission of Investigations (Indecom) Terrence Williams, is encouraging persons to avoid fleeing from the police, especially when they have been asked to stop.

 

This, as a police constable has been left hospitalised, after he was mowed down in New Kingston, this morning.

 

The police information arm reports, that the constable, who was conducting traffic management duties, reportedly signalled the driver of a motorcar to stop, after the driver committed a traffic infraction.

 

The driver reportedly slowed-down before accelerating the vehicle into the path of the constable, running him over, and crushing one of his legs.

 

In condemning the act, Commissioner Williams implored Jamaicans to abide by the lawful orders of the police and to avoid physical confrontations with them.

 

 

Commissioner Williams was speaking at a press conference in New Kingston, today.
