A man who allegedly shot at police during a vehicular spot check operation in Westmoreland yesterday (Jun 22) was shot and killed.

The decreased has been identified as James Brown otherwise known as Andy or Mackerel from West End, Negril.

Reports are that about 8:30 p.m., yesterday, the police were conducting operations along the Little London main road, in the vicinity of Negril Spot, when a Toyota wish motor car was stopped.

The driver who was alone confronted the police with a firearm.

Police say the driver was subsequently shot during the confrontation.

The driver received wounds and was taken to the Savanna La Mar Hospital where he subsequently died.

Police say a luger pistol with magazine and four rounds of ammunition were recovered.

In a separate incident on Thursday, about 12:00 p.m. the police conducted operations in Seaforth own.

Cops reportedly seized an illegal high point pistol with an empty magazine that had been hidden in a culvert along the roadway.

No arrest was made in connection to the find.
