Manchester United top world football money list

by January 23rd, 2018

Manchester United have retained their position as the highest revenue-generating club in the world, according to the latest annual ‘Money League’ report by accountancy firm Deloitte.

United made £581 million during the 2016-2017 season to edge out Spanish and European champions Real Madrid, who made £579.7m, by just £1.5 million.

It marks the 10th time the Old Trafford club has topped the money list, with the money received from UEFA for their victory over Ajax Amsterdam in the 2017 Europa League final proving crucial to holding off the Galacticos who swapped places with arch-rivals Barcelona (£557m).

German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich (£505m) held on to the number 4 spot with runaway English Premier League leaders Manchester City remaining in 5th place with revenues of £454 million.

Arsenal (£419m) climbed to 6th, swapping places with Paris Saint-Germain (£417.8m) while Chelsea (£367.8m), Liverpool (£364.4m) and Juventus (£348.6m) keep their places to round out the top 10.

The top 20 was made up of 10 English clubs, who were boosted by the fact that 2016-17 was the first season of the current Premier League broadcast rights deal.

The remaining 10 clubs comprised of three each from Spain, Germany and Italy and one from France. Seven-time European champions AC Milan dropped out of the top 20 for the first time.
