Manchester United vs Barcelona in mouth-watering Champions League semifinal

by March 15th, 2019

Manchester United have been drawn against Barcelona in the marquee tie of the Champions League quarter-finals.

United beat the Catalans over two legs in the semis en route to lifting the title in 2008.

However Barcelona returned the favour in the 2009 and 2011 final, winning on both occasions.

The draw means a return to Nou Camp for United caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who scored a stoppage-time winner in United’s Champions League final win over Bayern Munich in 1999.

The first leg, although initially scheduled to be played in Barcelona, will take place at Old Trafford as a result of a UEFA ruling that stops United and neighbours Manchester City from playing at home on the same night.

In the other ties, last season’s beaten finalists Liverpool were drawn against FC Porto, Tottenham face Manchester city in an all-English affair while Juventus take on Ajax Amsterdam in a repeat of the 1996 final.

The first legs of the quarter-final ties will take place on April 9 and 10, with the second legs coming a week later on April 16 and 17.

The semi-final draw was also made and sees Manchester United meeting Liverpool if both win their last-eight ties.

The semi-finals start on April 30 and May 1 with the final to be played on June 1.
