by April 23rd, 2019

Irie Fm sports understands that two time world cup MVP batsman Marlon Samuels will not be a part of the west indies 15 man squad selected to represent the region at next month’s cricket world cup in England and Wales.

The 15 man squad was today submitted to the ICC and the announcement of the squad will take place during a press conference in Antigua tomorrow.

The West Indies squad will be the last of the participating teams to be announced

The squad will be picked by the freshly appointed interim selection panel chaired by Robert Haynes, along with jimmy Adams and West Indies’ newly appointed coach Floyd Reifer.

Although Jason holder will continue to be the captain and Chris Gayle will almost certainly play his fifth world cup, questions remain over the participation of the country’s other superstars, who have been successful in the last five years in domestic T/20 leagues around the world.

The absence of Samuels who was expected to use the world cup as his swansong for the West Indies will come as a part of the sweeping changes being made by the new Ricky Skerrit led cricket West Indies.
