by May 27th, 2022

Dancehall singjay Mavado is expressing his displeasure following reports that the ex-cop convicted of shooting a schoolgirl in the head in a taxi in Downtown Kingston has escaped prison time.

Using a colorful Jamaican expletive to express his feelings, the Dancehall entertainer in a social media post, questioned the country’s justice system.

Mavado, who shared the story on his Instagram timeline, in the caption, wrote, in part, “I never know a so the law in Jamaica stay. Can somebody explain this to me please. Dem people ya wicked. Mi sorry for the ghetto people, my god.”

The 42-year-old, former police corporal, Kirk Haye, who was convicted of unlawful wounding, was on Thursday sentenced to two years in prison, which was suspended for two years pending good behavior for the period.

This means, that if he is not convicted of any offence within the next two years, then he will not have to serve the two years’ imprisonment.

The incident occurred in 2016, and the schoolgirl has since recovered.
