The St. Ann police have restored access to the main roads from Brown’s Town to Runaway Bay and Discovery Bay, which were blocked in several sections by residents early this morning.

Police say they received reports about the roadblocks from about 3 AM. The residents were reportedly protesting against poor road conditions.

Head of the St. Ann police Senior Superintendent Dwight Powell noted that sections of the roadway in Dumbarton were blocked a second time this morning after firefighters assisted the police in clearing them.

Meanwhile, Mayor of St. Ann’s Bay Sydney Stewart met with the disgruntled residents this morning.

He notes that while he understands the citizens’ plight, plans are in train to carry out repairs on the roadway.

Last July, Minister of Works, Everald Warmington, during a tour of St. Ann North Western, noted that some $250 million would be spent on the rehabilitation of roads in the constituency.

Mayor Stewart says patching works will continue in the constituency until the programme starts.

The mayor notes that arrangements will be made for Member of Parliament Krystal Lee to meet with the residents.
