by January 18th, 2022

The country’s doctors are renewing their call for tighter COVID-19 measures, as the health services continue to be overwhelmed by COVID-19.

There has been a significant spike in cases in recent weeks.

COVID-19 hospitalizations have also sky-rocketed, with close to 500 persons hospitalized with the virus.

Additionally, the Health Ministry has announced that starting tomorrow (January 19), only emergency cases will be accepted at Jamaica’s public hospitals.

Several persons have been calling for tighter measures to be implemented, however, Prime Minister Andrew Holness has maintained the measures which have been in place since last year.

Speaking with IRIE FM, President of the Medical Association of Jamaica, Dr. Brian James says the Government must reconsider its stance.

He says face-to-face classes should be suspended.
