Meeting with NWC management, trade unions and labour ministry set for today

by July 10th, 2023

A conciliatory meeting with the management of the National Water Commission, (NWC) the unions representing NWC workers and the labour ministry is to be held today (July 10).

The meeting is set for 2 pm at the ministry’s Kingston office.

It follows a 72 hour strike notice issued on the NWC as workers continue to be restive over unresolved salary issues.

The workers say they want a salary scale review a process which has been a contentious one for the past 2 months, to be finalised promptly.

In the notice issued last Friday, the workers said if the matter is not satisfactorily resolved within 3 days, they will have no option but to resort to taking industrial action.

In response, Labour Minister Pearnel Charles Junior said, representatives from his ministry and the management of the NWC will meet with the National Workers Union, the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union, the Jamaica Association of Local Government Officers, and, the Union of Public and Private Employees, on Monday, in a bid to resolve the issues.
