by March 10th, 2019

The Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association, have expressed concern over the rising crime trend in the second city.

This in the wake of a robbery incident in which a money courier and his security escort team came under attack from armed robbers, today (Mar 10). Two men were killed.

In a joint statement this afternoon, the Mobay Chamber and JHTA said their concerns are in regards to the trend of criminal activities within St. James generally, but Montego Bay in particular, since the withdrawal of the enhanced security measures.

President of the Mobay Chamber Winston Lawson, said despite assurances from government and the security forces, that they will maintain the gains made under the enhanced security measure, the rising trend of brazen, cold hearted shootings and killings, has given rise to renewed concerns.

He called for the implementation of the relevant policies, legislation and strategies to bring an instant halt of this undesirable trend that has returned to Montego Bay.

Mr. Lawson also urged the business community to always be on the alert.
