MOCA to be designated an independent agency, effective April 1

by January 20th, 2021

The Major Organised Crime and Anti-corruption Agency (MOCA) will be legally designated as an independent agency of the Ministry of National Security, effective April 1.

National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang made the announcement today.

It follows months of collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and Public Service to finalize the conditions and terms of service for MOCA officers.

It also comes on the heels of the approval of the MOCA regulations in March 2020.

Dr. Chang says since its establishment in 2018, MOCA has consistently conducted its investigations and operations with the highest level of quality and integrity, and has always done so independently.

He notes that the appointed date notice is a requirement under the MOCA act, and is a crucial step in the establishment of the independent, specialized law enforcement agency.

In the meantime, Dr. Chang has underscored the importance of the work carried out by MOCA, while lauding the agency’s successes to date.

He says MOCA continues to demonstrate diligence in fulfilling its mandate to target organized crime and corruption and to investigate and corroborate the evidence necessary to prosecute perpetrators of these serious crimes.
