The woman who was seen in a video beating a minor with an object which appeared to be machete in St. Thomas will face the court next Monday.

44-year-old Doreen Dyer of Bath in St. Thomas was charged today with cruelty to a child.

She was granted bail with surety and is scheduled to appear before the St. Thomas parish court on October 9.

The constabulary communication unit says the beating of the girl occurred sometime last year.

However, the incident just came to light with the release of the video at the weekend.

The video has evoked widespread criticism.
