Murders Up Over Last Year

The Police Commissioner has given figures indicating that some 64 more people have been murdered this year compared to the same period last year.

The Commissioner, speaking at a town hall meeting in Clarendon, said a number of measures have been implemented, as citizens continue to make recommendations and suggestions, in an effort to combat the high murder rate and other crimes in Clarendon.

So far, more than 42 people have been murdered in Clarendon.

Police Commissioner, Dr. Karl Williams on Thursday told residents at a town hall meeting, held at the Bucknor Community Centre in May Pen, Clarendon, that the police have started to improve their intelligence capabilities.

He said citizens’ recommendations and suggestions have already been implemented in troubled communities across the island.

The Police Commissioner said since the start of the year, up to Thursday, 439 Jamaicans had been murdered and this compared to 375 last year for the same period.

Meaning over 60 more people have been killed so far this year, compared to last year.

 

 

According to The Commissioner, Clarendon has contributed 42 murders since the start of the year.

 

 

The town hall meeting was held under the theme, “Let Us Exchange Ideas As We Fight Crime”.

Other members of the Police High Command, members of the Citizens Security and Justice Programme (CSJP) and representatives from the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) were also in attendance.
