Mutabaruka and others to pay tribute to Vaughn Benjamin

World-renowned dub poet Mutabaruka, American singer David Banner, and Jah 9 are some of the entertainers slated to celebrate the life of Midnite lead singer, and Akae Beka, Vaughn Benjamin.

The tribute event dubbed Afrikin 2019, the Art of Conversation, will be held in Miami Beach, Florida on December 6. Other entertainers and speakers set to pay tribute to Vaughn Benjamin are Dr. Julius Garvey, son of Jamaica’s first National Hero, Marcus Garvey, Amara La Negra, and Aja Monet among others.

IRIE FM’s Mutabaruka speaks with Music News.

Vaughn Benjamin was strongly influenced by classic Jamaican roots-reggae. He collaborated with several Jamaican acts, including Protoje, Jah9, and Lutan Fyah.

Mutabaruka who was a friend of Benjamin shares with Music News a heart-warming moment he shared with the legendary singer.

Vaughn Benjamin died on November 4 in Florida at the age of 50.

He will be laid to rest on November 25.
