NAJ assess space at Falmouth Hospital, due to more noxious fumes at Cornwall Regional

by February 22nd, 2018

Members of the Nurses Association of Jamaica (NAJ) conducted a tour of a section of the Falmouth Hospital which is being eyed for additional space, in light of the recurrence of noxious fumes at the Cornwall Regional Hospital in St. James.

The visit followed one to the Cornwall Regional Hospital today (Feb 22) where several staff and patients have been complaining for about two weeks now about feeling ill again.

Since the problem surfaced at the health facility last year, the Health Ministry said it embarked on an intensive effort to address the situation.
NAJ President Carmen Johnson told Irie FM News that a team visited the Falmouth Hospital to assess the work being done to facilitate patients from Cornwall Regional.

Some 20 beds are to be accommodated.

Ms. Johnson highlighted that some health workers are for the first time complaining of muscle weakness, as a result of the noxious fumes at Cornwall Regional.

She said other issues being experienced by some of the health workers include cardiac issues and memory and hair loss.

The nurses are hopping mad that several measures to mitigate against the problem have not been undertaken.
