NAJ calls on NERHA to boost security at Port Antonio Hospital

by February 21st, 2019

The Nurses Association of Jamaica (NAJ) will be writing to the North East Regional Health Authority (NERHA) about security concerns of its members at the Port Antonio Hospital in Portland.

The nurses are calling for improvement in security at the medical facility.

They want perimeter fencing for the hospital and for windows on the wards to be repaired.

The call follows a recent incident where it’s reported that a senior nurse was abused by a relative of a patient.

A team from the Nurses Association of Jamaica visited the Port Antonio Hospital on Monday and held discussions with the nurses.

NAJ President Carmen Johnson says the nurses want the hospital’s management to examine the security system and ensure that there is always access to security guards.

The group will be writing to NERHA and the health ministry about their concerns.

Meantime she says   the nurses are demoralized and distraught arising from the recent incident.
