by May 30th, 2019

The Nurses Association of Jamaica (NAJ) says it is alarmed at the violent murder of a Cuban nursing colleague in Clarendon yesterday (May 29) and strongly condemns the attack.

55 year old Nancy Samuels-Fernandez, of Copper Avenue, New Harbour Village, St. Catherine, was allegedly stabbed to death by an ambulance driver in Hayes, Clarendon.

Reports from the May Pen police are that about 3:00 p.m. Samuels Fernandez was attacked by the male ambulance driver who reportedly used a knife to stab her.

Samuels Fernandez was pronounced dead at hospital.

The alleged attacker was taken into custody.

His identity is being withheld pending further investigations.

Speaking in an interview with Irie FM News, President of the NAJ Carmen Johnson, said the association is available to provide support to the Cuban fraternity employed in Jamaica.

Miss Johnson noted that the NAJ will continue to advocate for a safe work environment and a more peaceful society.

She is hopeful that the unfortunate incident will not deter Cuban practitioners, as the island continues to look to the country to fill the gaps in the health care system.
