National Honours for Cedella Marley, Eric Donaldson, Oliver Samuels and more

Cedella Marley, daughter of the late reggae icon Bob Marley, Big Youth, Eric Donaldson, and Oliver Samuels are among a group of Jamaicans to be conferred with national honours come this Heroes day.

Comedian/actor Oliver Samuels, who already holds the Order of Distinction in the rank of officer, will receive the Order of Distinction in the rank of Commander (CD). Cedella Marley will also receive the Order of Distinction in the rank of Commander (CD) for her work with the national women’s football programme.

Meanwhile seven-time festival song winner, Eric Donaldson is among a list of 41 individuals who will be awarded the Order of Distinction in the rank of Officer (OD) for his outstanding service to the Jamaican music industry.

Other entertainment practitioners slated to receive this honour for their contribution to entertainment are former Third World drummer, William “Willie” Stewart, Big Youth British music selector David Rodigan, and singer Keith Lyn.

Deiwght Peters, head of Saint International modelling agency will be conferred the Order of Distinction in the rank of Officer (OD) for his contribution to the fashion industry.

The awards will be presented on National Heroes’ Day, October 19, at King’s House.
