NBA All-Star reserves announced

by January 24th, 2018

The Golden State Warriors are the first team to have a record-tying four All-Stars in consecutive years after Klay Thompson and Draymond Green were voted as reserves to join starters Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant at the 2018 NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles on February 18.

Karl-Anthony Towns (Minnesota Timberwolves) and Kristaps Porzingis (New York Knicks) will both be making their debut All-Star appearance after being named as among the 14 reserves who were selected by NBA head coaches.

The list is completed by reigning MVP Russell Westbrook (Oklahoma City), Washington Wizards guards John Wall and Bradley Beal, Damian Lillard (Portland), Kevin Love (Cleveland), Jimmy Butler (Minnesota), LaMarcus Aldridge (San Antonio), Al Horford (Boston), Victor Oladipo (Indiana) and Kyle Lowry (Toronto).

They join the group of 10 starters led by Curry and LeBron James who were the highest overall vote getters in the two conferences.

In a new format this season, James and Curry will choose the two All-Star teams. Rosters will be chosen without regard for conference affiliation from the pool of starters and reserves.

James and Curry are scheduled to choose the teams via a conference call with league officials Thursday, and rosters will be announced later that day. There is no time limit between picks.

The first four selections must come from the pool of starters. James will select ahead of Curry because he finished with the highest overall voting total. Curry will get the first selection among the reserves.

The pool of starters from which to choose is completed by Giannis Antetokonmpo (Milwaukee), Joel Embiid (Philadelphia), Kyrie Irving (Boston) Demar Derozan (Toronto), James Harden (Houston), Kevin Durant (Golden State) and New Orleans Pelicans duo Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins.
