by March 9th, 2022

The government, through the bank of Jamaica, will be introducing a new $2000 note, that will be in circulation along with redesigned notes for other dollar categories.

Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke revealed during his budget debate presentation on Tuesday, that, a recent analysis showed that there was need for a bill, that falls between the one thousand, and $5000 notes.

The new $2000 note will bear the images of former prime ministers, the late Edward Seaga, and Michael Manley.

Dr. Clarke added that the redesigned bank notes will have enhanced features, for security and visually impaired persons.

The colours of the redesigned notes resemble the colour scheme of old bills that had been taken out of circulation years ago.

The new notes will also have changes in the images depicted on them; the $50 will have George William Gordon and Paul Bogle; the $100 note will have Marcus Garvey; the $5000 note will have Nanny and Sam Sharpe; the $1000 note will have Alexander Bustamante and Norman Manley; while the $5000 note will have Donald Sangster and Hugh Shearer.
