A new base for the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) is to be constructed at Wareika Hills in St. Andrew.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness recently signed documents for the lands designated for the base.

Speaking in Parliament yesterday (March 17), Mr Holness noted that the JDF will be expanding its presence in remote areas, as part of efforts to prevent criminals from establishing hideout spots.

He said the special operations base in Wareika Hills is a strategic location for the JDF.
