The new minimum wage takes effect today (April 1).

The increases were approved by Cabinet in February.

The national minimum wage has moved from $7000 to $9000 per 40-hour work week.

Industrial security guards are also getting an increase.

Their rate moves from $9,700 to $10,500 per 40 hour work week.

The security guards are also seeing increases in allowances as of today.

The allowances covered are laundry, firearm premium, dog handlers premium and life insurance coverage with double indemnity protection and dismemberment coverage.
