The New Firearms Legislation, which was tabled in the Lower House today (February 10), is to go before a joint select committee of Parliament, for deliberation.
The bill seeks, among other things to impose a life imprisonment sentence on persons convicted of a gun possession offence.
National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang noted that the bill deals with 2 specific frameworks.
He said an amnesty, aimed at encouraging persons to turn over illegal guns, is expected to be offered, prior to the legislation being enacted.
