NIDS implementation may be delayed

by November 14th, 2017

The technical team in the Office of the Prime Minister says the implementation plan for the National Identification System (NIDS) may be delayed.

Chief Technical Director, Jacqueline Lynch Stewart, says the pilot for the programme was to be rolled out in January 2019.

However, the implementation date may have to be delayed by two months.

She says the next step will be the fine tuning of the regulations.

In addition she says the pilot, when implemented, will target public sector workers.

She was speaking at a press conference this morning (Nov 14) following senate’s passage of the National Identification and Registration System bill last night.

The Opposition voted against the legislation.
