No decision yet on employment status of JC Principal Ruel Reid

by November 10th, 2021

Education Minister, Fayval Williams says no decision has been taken regarding recommendations made by the Jamaica College Board, relating to the employment status of the school’s Principal Ruel Reid.

Mr. Reid, who is before the courts on fraud charges, continues to be paid for his role as principal, as he had been granted special leave.

He has also requested an extension of his leave.

In a letter last month, Chairman of the Board of Management of Jamaica College, Michael Bernard, said the board does not want to be forced into a position, to either approve the special leave, or alternatively allow Mr. Reid to resume.

The board sent a letter to the ministry with recommendations and requested a response by today (November 10), in advance of the November 20, expiration of Mr. Reid’s current special leave.

However, responding to questions during a Post Cabinet Press Briefing this morning, Mrs. Williams said, deliberations regarding the matter continue.
