“No need to divide and conquer” dancehall entertainers speak out

by November 22nd, 2019

A slew of dancehall entertainers and entertainment industry professionals on Thursday showed their solidarity with the disapproval of a report in the media, suggesting that Grammy-nominated reggae sensation Koffee is now a bigger artiste than Chronixx.

Gramps Morgan, Konshens, Charly Black, Kranium, Cecile, Teflon, Versatile and Dovey Magnum are some of the entertainers who joined the thousands of music fans on social media blasting the report as negative, and unnecessary.

Entertainment lawyer Peter Champagnie, and heavyweight dancehall producers, Tony Kelly, Walshy Fire, Stephen Di Genius, Ricky Blaze, notice, Markus Myrie, and Teflon Zincfence who has done work with both artistes, also called on the story to be retracted, stating that there is no need to compare, and to instigate any segregation in an industry that has already been receiving a lot of flack for a lack of unity.

On Wednesday, Koffee who just came off a major performance to a sold-out arena in Birmingham with Chronixx, made history at 19, becoming the youngest solo act to ever be nominated for a Grammy in the Best Reggae Album category, joining a shortlist of now only five women to be nominated in the category.

Koffee’s Grammy-nominated EP ‘Rapture,’ will go up against ‘More Work to Be Done’ by Third World, ‘As I Am’ by Julian Marley, ‘The Final Battle Sly and Robbie vs Roots Radics,’ and ‘Mass Manipulation’ by Steel Pulse.

The 62nd annual Grammy Awards will take place on Sunday, January 26, 2020, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles California.
