Normal Operations resume at Anchovy High following protest by Ancillary workers

by May 30th, 2022

Normal operations have resumed at the Anchovy High school in St. James, following a protest by ancillary workers at the institution, this morning (May 30).

The workers who are upset about late payment of salaries, padlocked the gates of the institution before school began, preventing students and teachers from gaining entrance to the compound.

They also mounted placards on the school’s gate while calling for the bursar to be relieved of the position.

Members of the fire brigade had to be called in to remove the padlock from the gate, allowing students, several of whom had external examinations to enter.

Speaking to Irie FM News, Chairman of the school’s board Nigel Golaub noted that a meeting was held with the workers, their unions, representatives from the ministry and other stakeholders.

He said another meeting is slated for next week.
