by November 9th, 2019

Normal operations have resumed at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St. James.

This after the departure lounge had to be evacuated this morning.

In a statement, MBJ Airports Limited said that at approximately 10.20 a.m. the protection system at the airport was activated.

While the emergency response service and Jamaica fire brigade conducted checks of the area, no-one was allowed access to post-security departures.

MBJ said in keeping with the emergency response procedure, persons in the vicinity of the area where smoke was detected were evacuated.

Preliminary assessment revealed that the smoke originated from electrical wires in an area being demolished in the vicinity of the ticketing concourse.

There is no report of any injury to anyone.
