Normality returning to Montego Bay

Mayor of Montego Bay Homer Davis says some semblance of normality is returning to the second city, following heavy rains and flooding.

A few businesses have reopened their doors.

He says the clean up will continue into the weekend.

Mayor Daivs is expressing appreciation to Sagicor for donating $5 m towards the recovery effort.

He adds that Sandals Foundation has also donated relief supplies.

Meantime, the St. James Municipal Corporation says so far, over 150 persons have been affected by the recent heavy rains and flooding in Montego Bay.

Teams led by the parish disaster coordinator have been gathering information and visiting various communities to determine the extent of the effects from the flooding.

Disaster Coordinator Tamoy Sinclair says representatives from other stakeholder groups have also sent out teams to conduct damage assessment.

Ms. Sinclair says its hoped that distribution of relief supplies can begin this weekend.

She says several entities have already made commitments to provide relief supplies and other aid, to the municipal corporation.
