by November 23rd, 2017

There continues to be reduced services at health care facilities across the country, as nurses keep up their industrial action.

Some have reportedly called-in sick, while others did not turn-up for work, as they agitate for better wages.

President of the Nurses Association of Jamaica (NAJ) Carmen Johnson says thirty to 50 percent of nurses have indicated that they will not be at work for the 2:00-10:00 p.m. shift.

Earlier today, about 50 percent of nurses had not turned-up for work at the University Hospital, St. Ann’s Bay Regional and Mandeville regional hospitals, among others.

The nurses have rejected the government’s 6 percent wage offer,

Ms. Johnson says they are asking for one hundred thousand dollars before tax for level one nurses.

She says once the wages of level one nurses are improved, the other levels will also see increases.
