by April 22nd, 2017

The National Works Agency (NWA) is urging residents to stay away from flooded roadways, as heavy rains continue to affect the island.

Communications Manager at the NWA Stephen Shaw says many of roads affected in eastern parishes will remain flooded until the rains stop, and the water recedes.

Sections of St. Catherine, Clarendon and St. Mary, are also affected by flooding.

Mr. Shaw says the Manchioneal roadway that was blocked by a fallen tree has been cleared.

Mr. Shaw says the NWA is monitoring the situation in all the affected parishes.

Meantime, Member of Parliament for South West St. Ann Zavia Mayne says he has received reports of flooding in sections of Douglas Castle, mostly affecting farm lands, destroying crops.

Flooding also affected sections of the roadway between Cave Valley and Spauldings, but the water has since receded.

The MP says he will be visiting the community this evening to get a first-hand view of the situation.

And, residents of Denbigh in Clarendon have called the newsroom to report flooding along the main road, as well as in the Cherry Tree, Four Paths, and Mineral Heights communities.
