by July 1st, 2021

The National Works Agency (NWA) says it is prepared to respond to any event which may occur as a result of projected heavy rainfall at the weekend.

The National Hurricane Centre has advised that Jamaicans and residents of the other Caribbean countries and Florida closely track the progress of tropical storm Elsa, which formed in the Atlantic Ocean early this morning.

The storm is expected to produce, up to 6 inches of rainfall, which could lead to isolated flash flooding and mudslides.

Additionally, the MET office has warned that the country is to receive increased rainfall, starting tomorrow, due to a tropical wave, which is moving across the eastern Caribbean.

Speaking with Irie FM News this morning, the Communication Manager at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, said the agency’s Hurricane Preparedness programme, including drain cleaning, is well advanced and should be completed soon.
