NWC making efforts to restore water supply following disruption due to flood rains

by April 24th, 2017

The National Water Commission says efforts are being made to restore piped water to affected parishes by the end of tomorrow (Apl 25).

Teams from the National Water Commission (NWC), are still working to restore several of its systems impacted by recent heavy rains, even as assessments of the damage is being done.

The eastern parishes have been most affected and according to Communication Manager at the NWC, Charles Buchanan the damage to the company’s system has been significant.

The NWC says the issues affecting its system include, high turbidity levels, blocked intakes, power supply and electro mechanical failures, dislocated mains and flooding at some locations.

This has resulted in water lock offs for several NWC customers over the last 72 hours.

Mr. Buchanan says water has been restored in some areas.

Mr. Buchanan outlines the areas with little or no water.

He also highlights challenges to the trucking of water to some communities.

An estimate of the damage was not available.

Mr. Buchanan says the priority is to identify and address the issues, after which a detailed assessment of the cost to the commission can be done.
