NWC trucking water to drought affected schools

by April 29th, 2019

As drought conditions worsen across the island, the National Water Commission (NWC) says water was trucked to schools in the worse affected areas in anticipation of the new school term.

NWC Communications Manager, Charles Buchanan, notes that while disruptions are affecting a wide cross section of customers, schools continue to be given high priority.

He adds that the commission has been in direct contact with several schools that were affected by low or no water conditions.

Mr. Buchanan is inviting schools to alert the commission if they have challenges.

Meanwhile, corporate area residents are facing another round of limited access to water as the National Water Commission continues night time restrictions to save water.

Buchanan says while the company has been facing challenges in recent times, the most current issue impacting the company is the problem of drought conditions.

He says this has led to reduced inflows to the hermitage dam and Mona reservoir over time, with the consequence being significantly reduced storage levels at both facilities.

Mr. Buchanan notes that the commission is still being affected by frequent breakage which is affecting distribution efforts.
