Nzinga King attorney says authenticity of claims not impacted by DPP’s ruling

by February 10th, 2022

The attorney representing Nzinga King has stressed that the ruling on Thursday by the Director of Public Prosecution, does not impact the authenticity of the claims, made by his client.

Isat Buchanan was reacting to the DPP‘s decision that no charge be laid against the police officers accused of abuse, in relation to claims by King that her hair was cut while she was in custody in Clarendon.

The lawyer said he is not surprised by the DPP‘s ruling, and that it does not affect the claimant’s ability to seek justice, through the civil courts, and that is the next course of action.

Mr Buchanan questioned some aspects of the police investigation.

According to the DPP, witnesses identified as colleagues of Miss King, and fellow inmates in the jail cell, claimed that Miss King planned to cut her hair, and that she pulled out her own locks, over the course of 2 days, while in lock up.

When asked if getting character evidence support for Miss King would be a challenge now, Mr Buchanan said no.

The lawyer said Miss King still has the support of the rastafarian community.
