Olympic Champions Elaine Thompson Herah and Hansle Parchment, among Jamaican winners at Puerto Rico Classic

Olympic champions Elaine Thompson Herah and Hansle Parchment along with Tokyo 2020 finalist Janieve Russell were the Jamaican winners at Puerto Rico Classic.

Thompson Herah, after earlier taking heat one in 11.22 seconds, stormed to a meet record 10.93 seconds in the women’s 100 meter final.

Trinidadian Michelle Lee-Ahye was second in 11.06 seconds while Natalliah White the other Jamaican in the women’s 100 meter final, clocked 11.13 seconds for 5th.

The men’s 100 meter final was won by American Trayvon Brommell in a meet record 9.92 seconds.

Former St. Elizabeth Technical stand out Nigel Ellis was 4th in 10.16 seconds while Yohan Blake and Ackeem Blake both failed to face the starter. 

In the men’s 110 meter hurdles…..Parchment ran a season best 13.15 seconds to beat American Devon Allen and Jamal Brit.

Damion Thomas, who also contested that race finished at the back of the field in 13.58 seconds.

Janieve Russell meanwhile clocked a season best 54.09 seconds…..the second fastest time in the world…to win the women’s 400 meter hurdles.

 

Compatriots Shian Salmon was second in a new personal best 54.43 second and Rushel Clayton third in 54.90.

In the women’s 400 Junelle Bromfield 51.82 seconds was third behind winner Athing Mu 50.42 while Chrisann- Gordon-Powell ended 6th in 52.47.

In the men’s event Sean Bailey posted 45.42 seconds for second behind Kirani James 44.70 seconds…….Demish Gaye 46.32 was 7th.

Over in the men’s 300 meters, Nathon Allen 32.04 and Christopher Taylor 32.29 were 3rd and 4th respectively……….the event won by Steve Gardiner of the Bahamas in 31.52 seconds.

In the women’s long jump Chanice Porter and Tissanna Hickling were 4th and 5th respectively with scores of 6.51 and 6.45 meters respectively while Jordan Scott ended 5th in the men’s triple jump with a leap of 16.46 meters.

In the men’s shot put, O’dayne Richards was 6th in a season best 19.91 meters, with American Ryan Crouser winning in a meet record 22.75 meters.
