World 110 meters champion Omar Mcleod and Swimming world record holder Alia Atkinson leads the nominees for the sports man and woman of the year award, which was announced this morning .
Atkinson was among the top swimmers in the FINA Airweave World Cup meets across the world, and the most successful female breastroke competitor in 2017.
The other nominees in the women’s section are : Elaine Thompson and Ristanana Tracey :
Thompson who failed to spark at the world championship in London, but finished 2017 with the two fastest times over 100 metres, and was also named the Diamond League winner of the year.
Tracey ran 53.74 seconds to take bronze in at the world championship on London.
McLeod was Jamaica’s only gold medallist at the IAAF World Championship in London and he is joined by reggae boys goal keeper Andre Blake who led Jamaica to the final of the Concacaf Gold Cup final.
The male section also include the legendary sprinter Usain bolt who won a bronze in the 100 meters at the World Championships and West Indies batsman Chris Gayle who smashed 18 sixes to lead Rangpur Riders to victory in the Bangladesh Premier League in an unbeaten 146 not out off 69 balls.
The others male nominees are Niktia Miller, Chadwick Walton and Chris Binnie.
