A man who police described as one of Westmoreland’s most feared gunmen, was shot and killed during a confrontation with lawmen in Burnt Savannah, Lacovia, St. Elizabeth, this morning.

The deceased Nicholas Ruben otherwise called ‘Evil’, was listed as one of Westmoreland’s most wanted.

Police say a Berretta 9MM pistol along with five cartridges were seized during the predawn operation that led to the confrontation between Ruben and the lawmen.

Head of the St. Elizabeth Police, Acting Superintendent Coleridge Minto, notes that Ruben was among several persons living in the parish, who are reporting to various police stations, as a condition of their bail.

He adds that the police are keeping a close eye on persons residing in the parish, who have serious matters before the court.

Meantime, the Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau, IPROB and the Independent Commission of Investigations, INDECOM are probing Ruben’s death.
