Opposition secures counselling services for students impacted by Ukraine/Russia conflict

by February 28th, 2022

The opposition People’s National Party (PNP) says it has secured the commitment of a team of psychiatrists to provide counselling services to Jamaican students affected by the Ukraine/Russia conflict.

The PNP says the team of six includes volunteers from the Jamaica Psychiatric, as well as the Jamaica Psychological Association, and is headed by psychiatrist Dr Winston de la Haye.

It notes that the services are available to students still in Ukraine, those who have crossed the border into neighbouring countries, and also to those who made their way home to Jamaica, provided they can connect electronically.

Speaking with Irie FM News, Opposition Spokesman on Health, Dr. Morais Guy, noted that initiatives that cater to the mental well-being of the students are just as important as the provisions being made to have them repatriated.

He said, the experience of war, would’ve had a traumatic effect on the students.

He stressed the importance of protecting both the physical and mental health of the students.
