Opposition Spokesman on Health Dr. Morais Guy urges persons to practice good hygiene to prevent the spread of hand foot and mouth disease

by May 31st, 2022

Opposition Spokesman on Health, Dr. Morais Guy is urging persons to practice good hygiene in a bid to prevent the spread of the hand, foot and mouth disease.

His advice follows a revelation by the Education Ministry yesterday (May 30) that face-to-face classes at the Chandler’s Pen Infant and Primary School in Clarendon, were suspended after four suspected cases of the disease were reported among students from the Infant Department.

The Ministry said face-to-face classes have been suspended for the rest of the week while deep cleaning exercises are conducted.

Classes will be facilitated online during this time.

Speaking with IRIE F-M news, Dr. Guy said the disease is a recurrent problem in Jamaica but does not mean that schools need to be closed.

He is urging parents to ensure good hygiene and to look out for symptoms of the disease in their children.
