Opposition spokesman questions accuracy of reporting on COVID-19 testing

by December 16th, 2021

Opposition Spokesman on Health, Dr. Morais Guy, has raised questions about the accuracy of the government’s reporting on COVID-19 testing data.

This, as he says, hundreds of tests, from tourists leaving the island, do not appear to be accounted for, in the daily numbers.

Speaking at today’s Joint Select Committee on the COVID -19 pandemic and related matters, Dr. Guy questioned, whether the private labs are providing the testing results, to the ministry on time.

He noted that the positivity rate would be inaccurate if this is true.

In response to the spokesperson’s concern, Permanent Secretary in the Health Ministry, Dunstan Bryan, sought to explain, that the ministry has an algorithm, for calculating the positivity rate.

Dr. Guy pressed further, suggesting that the figures were in fact inaccurate, prompting a response from the health minister.
