Opposition underscores need for attention to climate change

by September 26th, 2017

Opposition Leader Dr. Peter Phillips has underscored the need for the region to turn its attention to a response to the effects of climate change.

He says as soon as the recovery process is well advanced the region should begin considering the longer term adjustments needed for these new conditions.

Dr. Phillips says the two category five hurricanes – Irma and Maria -within ten days, is an unprecedented occurrence, noting that not many places or small countries can withstand a category five hurricane.

The opposition leader says in developing plans to deal with the longer term effects of climate change the region should reach out to the international community for support, for these plans.

He says the opposition is in solidarity with government’s support to Caribbean countries affected negatively by Irma and Maria, and also for the evacuation of Jamaicans.
