Over 32,000 students remain out of school despite resumption of full face-to-face classes

by April 13th, 2022

Despite the resumption of full face-to-face classes last month, some 32,500 students have not been re-engaged in the formal education system, since the closure of schools due to COVID-19 in 2020.

Education Minister, Fayval Williams made the revelation during her Sectoral Debate presentation in Parliament yesterday (April 12).

Mrs. Williams who gave an update on the ‘Yard-to-Yard Find the Child’ initiative noted that at least 120,000 students had been unaccounted for, during the online teaching and learning modality adopted during the pandemic.

She said $103 million was spent on efforts to re-engage the nation’s students via the face-to-face modality.

She explained, however, that of the 120,000 students who were unaccounted for since 2020, over 80,000 of them have been re-engaged.

She said the Ministry remains committed to its mandate of ensuring students are back in school.
